As the bar owner and loyal patrons celebrate at the St. Mary’s Strip landmark this weekend with Flaco Jimenez, Max Baca, the West Side Horns, Joe Jama and Los Dudes, it’s with a sinking feeling that things didn’t play out quite the way they’d hoped.
Musician, music educator and conjunto festival promoter Juan Tejeda knows first-hand the burden and joys of honoring the past and sowing seeds for the future. He’s helping salute Conjunto Heritage Taller as an essential part of San Antonio musical life this weekend.
Conjunto Heritage Taller is where young and old go to learn the accordion and the bajo sexto, the Mexican 12-string acoustic guitar. And every year they throw a fun party.
The nonprofit organization stages its ninth annual Conjunto Heritage Tareada at Maverick Plaza in La Villita on Saturday. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Admission costs $10 (free for children 12 and younger). Call 210-212-8560. www.conjuntoheritagetaller.org
